Staying alert while driving is very important whether you’re to have a shorter drive or going to a long road trip. Most of the road accidents occur due to lack of alertness. At times while being on long road trips, you may not stay alert. Here’re few tips to keep awaken and alert:
- Before driving make sure that you had enough sleep. Have a good night sleep before going for a long road trip. And if you drive in routine, maintain a proper sleeping schedule.
- Take a 10- to 15-minute break to exercise, stretch or walk briskly after every 2 hours you drive.
- On long drives, let someone else do a share of the driving.
- Your body needs nutrition to stay alert, so eat regularly to keep blood-sugar levels even.
- Drink coffee or tea (or another form of caffeine) for a temporary fix.
- Avoid medicine that makes you drowsy.
- Learn recognizing drowsiness, i.e. if you keep yawning, your head nods, your mind wanders, you feel eyestrain, or your eyes want to close or have trouble staying focused. In all these situations you need a break from driving.
- Take a nap if youre sleepy, even if you cant get to a bed.
